So I'm not the biggest soccer fan out there because, well, I live in America. BUT, I am a huge USA fan, regardless of what sport they're playing. And I also hate when people get things over America, because fuck them thats why. If you don't like America then you can just geeeeet outtttt. So naturally, I was disappointed when Qatar got the 2022 World Cup over the good old U S of A. This annoyed me even more when I read (yes I actually read) and article on Yahoo yesterday about how they're going to invest all of the oil money into building a fake cloud to keep the stadium cool....yup I said fake cloud.I mean this could be cool right? Playing mother nature, conjuring up a nimbus to just chill and watch some soccer. Well no thats not gonna happen. The thing looks like a giant floating platform from Sonic the Hedgehog or something. Which you know, could also be kinda cool. Why does this make me mad then? So far I've only listed why its cool. Well.....it makes me mad because it is very fucking cool. We fucking lost to Qatar and they just rubbed our faces in it. Kinda of like a big old Fuck you recession laden America, we've got so much dough we're building fake clouds and shit. Nah fucking just putting a dome on the place like the rest of the sporting world, that's too easy. Lets build a giant fucking floating platform that we can stand on and piss oil on everyone from.
So how do we sting these guys back? Well I guess the only way is to win this friggin thing. Can that happen? No probably not. But damnit we're going for it. So what Landon Donovan is gonna be like 45 by then. We got Becks now right? Right? So here it is, the line in the sand. Either we as a culture get on board with the rest of the world or lose to a country that I'm pretty sure somebody made up so that we wouldn't get the Cup.
Essentially.....these guys and this lady are our only hope..........
And thats what really grinds my gears.......
i'm kind of happy qatar won. if it was in USA they would have to pick an area with a lot of cities close together (i.e, east coast) so people could travel to different stadiums. And personally, I don't want 10 million extra people making travel even more annoying around here.
ReplyDeletePlus, have you seen the designs for some of the Qatar satdiums? They are sick. You know in America the NFL would somehow get involved so they could use the new stadiums for football, then there would be a construction lockout because the owners want 10% of the World Cup revenue, and all the stadiums would end up being stupid and ugly...
Let soccer countries host the cup, they know how it's done.
Big Green was a great movie.
ReplyDelete(yes i have seen it)
Evan I have to disagree. While traffic might suck, in 94 the US hosted the World Cup and Foxborough had some matches. They didn't concentrate on one area and there were sites used across the US. So I don't think it would be terrible.
ReplyDeleteAlso, this plan will massively fail. Obviously Qatar has all their money from oil, but the cup will take place 11 years from now. We'll be less dependent on oil if technology keeps advancing and they'll have a lot less money as demand drops. The temperature will be insanely hot despite their fucking cloud invention. Want to impress me? Have flying air conditioners everywhere that people can move around. That will cool things off.Not a fucking cloud.
And they want to be able to take down the stadiums and rebuild them elsewhere. Why not just build them elsewhere and skip all this shit in the first place?
Also the 94 World Cup set the attendance record...just saying...we know how to do it.- sac
ReplyDeletehaha robby don't make me laugh with your silly, overly-optimistic predictions of the future. right now, there are more significant technologies being developed to find and tap new oil sources than there are to find clean, renewable sources. Plug-in cars and hydrogen fuel cells won't be any more beneficial than oil until we can find a cleaner electricity source than coal/oil/natural gas. And that won't happen until those prices skyrocket, which probably won't be until after that World Cup.
ReplyDeleteThen, once it becomes absurdly expensive to use those sources, America will go crazy like, "We need wind farms, we need solar, we need Hydro-power!" But guess what, we weren't building those things and updating our Grid when we had cheap fuel. So once oil becomes prohibitively expensive, we will need it to build and transport new wind turbines, solar panelss, and nuclear facivilties. But we won't be able to afford to do that. Then the world will end. So let's just enjoy Qatar's World Cup while we still can. There is gonna be a stadium that is underground, so they are going green and using the Earth's constant temperature for cooling purposes. That's the stadium I want to go to...
Good points Evan. I think one thing we're failing to recognize though is will the Middle East even exist in 11 years? I mean with the rate they're going now with all the protests and then the intervention by Western powers, maybe America will end up hosting the World Cup...in the Middle East.
