Angry Cooper Rants: Concerts (Again)

I'M BAAAAAAACK. In an effort to revive this blog we've come back with a new outlook on how to post, when to post, and what to post. Logically most of this background discussion and the little break we took was directed at making sure I'm not posting stupid stuff 20 times a day. Have no fear though, I'm still angry. And according to the people whom I drank with this weekend I keep ranting.

So I might have done something like this before but I happened to go to a concert last weekend and Evan's been pressuring me to get something done by Wednesday. So here we go, ten things that bother me about concerts.

First off, the loud concert. (Notable offenders: Every rock band ever)

piss off

CooperMusic: Gorillaz

So this is just a great song overall. I've never really met anyone who outright hated this song. To me, this is awesome because A) the bassline is ballin B) the parts of the song are just very well put together and C) it features the only time in the history of the universe that the bassist is getting more girls than the lead singer.

Coopermusic: Lateralus

Welcome to my first of (many) posts about Tool. There's a bunch I could say here, but basically it can be surmised as "you got your math in my hard rock... you got your hard rock in my math....awesome"

Prepare for mindfucking

CooperMusic: Bill Withers

SO again, I don't really know who this guy is. But this song was in the commercial for the Dante's Inferno video game that came out a while ago. It just gets horribly stuck in my head, because you know, there ain't no sunshine when she's gone.

Also this is from 1971. Sick.

Dante's Inferno SuperBowl commercial after the jump.

CooperMusic: It's Friday, Friday

Cooper says: I do not approve of this

Gotta get down on Friday

CooperMusic: Some dude

No really, never heard of this guy before, but this is some pretty sweet guitar/FX pedal work.

Props to this guy.

Obligatory:

CooperMusic: Flux Pavillion

I'm pirating cooper's thread title, I know we are all about originality in this blog but I'm just lazy. I haven't actually listened to any of the CooperMusic postings so this might not be Cooper music at all...but I don't really care one way or the other.

Buuuttttt this is Flux Pavilion's new(ish?) song

Edit: I'm Maaaaaaaaark. Also I can deal with this

CooperMusic / Nerdity! : Pi Day

Pretty sure I'd have to turn in my nerd card if I didn't post something about this today.

3/14 is Pi Day. Yeah π for everyone.

Watch the video below because it's awesome. (0:45 if you're impatient)

Now if you don't mind I'm going to watch the Blackhawks and Sharks play real hockey.... and eat apple pie.

PS Yes I have a nerd card.

CooperMusic: Silversun Pickups

This is a really polarizing band. I've found that a lot of people prefer to think that the (hot) girl bassist of the band is singing. But since I listen to RUSH and other bands where the vocals sound like someone's balls are being squeezed it's pretty par for the course for me. Actually come to think of it, this is probably the most manly I've heard the lead singer sound like in a song recently.

Regardless, this song's been lodged in my head pretty much all day....since I have nothing better to do now than try for unemployment, work out, play video games and blog all day.

CooperMusic: Funky Friday

Nothing better to celebrate the beginning of my unemployment than by getting funky on a friday night (by linking youtube videos and playing video games)

So really, it's play that funky music. I mean, if I didn't link this within the first 3 funky fridays I should be shot.

Basically, my shock can be summarized by a youtube comment:
"Before I saw this I swore the singer was black!" - OutrightRandom

Really who expected that guy to have that voice, and then rip off the solo.

You now all see why I grew my hair out.

Also PS the drummer is wearing a shirt that says "DRUMS"
nice.

CooperMusic: What I would (hypothetically) listen to if i were (hypothetically) killing perm.

If i were to kill Perm/StanSmith it would probably be to something crazy. Like, batshiat-insane-adrenaline-pumping madness. It also just happens to be the 25th anniversary of Metallica's Master of Puppets album being released. Coincidence? I think not.

Hide yo perms Hide yo wifes cause Cooper's killin errebody up in hurrr

Select cuts off the album after the jump

CooperMusic: Coheed and Cambria

Well thanks to a certain Boston based shave care company that will not be named not picking up my contract extension, some people might say that I have been in a worse mood than usual.

I know what you're thinking, "but Cooper, who doesn't want to pick up the 12 week, $21 an hour option on one of the best young analytical chemists in the league?" Stupid British people. Thats who.

I also know what you're really thinking, "but Cooper, you're always in such a great mood, you can't let this be the thing that get you down!" And that's where music comes in.

Feb 25, 2011

CooperMusic: Funky Friday!

Thats right my brothers rejoice!
We have reached the end of the week. What a better way to start then end of it than with some sick nasty funk.

These guys will get their own CooperMusic post eventually, but for now, take a listen to this piece.

CooperMusic: BT

BT, as far as I stand, is pretty much one of the OG's of trance music. He's also the lead artist on my "things need to get DONE" playlist.

For those not in the know, trance is sort of the middle of the road in electronica. If techno is "hard" and ambient is well, soft, trance is pretty much dead in the middle. Side note, people who like trance are hardcore about it. Like, my obsession with Halo hardcore does not compare.

Anyways, he was a huge influence on the beginnings of trance becoming its own art form.

CooperMusic: deadmau5

So recently, deadmau5 (pronounced deadmouse, not dead mau five) has been blowing up all over the place. Whether it was DJ'ing the MTV VMA's or being sampled in "Ghosts over a G6" by Basic Physics, it seems like more and more music is becoming electronic based. You can blame Lady Gaga for that.
Side note, I hate the Basic Physics song because I'm a huge purist who hates having good songs (Ghosts n' Stuff) ruined by crappy songs (like a G6).
Anyways, I'm coming clean about this guy. I saw this dude in August at the House of Blues in Boston in maybe the hottest show ever. I mean that in a heat sense (it was about 105 in there) and a "this concert was badass" approach.

Anyways, I want people to know that deadmau5 is one of my top 5 favorite artists right now. And, well, let's just get to it. Here he is featuring Rob Swire (of Pendulum fame, my #1 band right now). Bump this next time you're in the cluuuub. By the way, a suitably nerdy video.
